Thickness, Finishes, and Backsplash

3cm (1-1/8” to 1-1/4”). This is the most popular and readily available thickness of granite and quartz material in the Midwest. Select colors of Marble, Granite, Quartz, Dekton and Eco, are available in 2 cm (3/4”).

The splash is made from the same material as the countertop, so it is typically 1-¼” thick.

They are all different types of aesthetic finishes for stone. Honed is similar to a matte finish, in that it is not shiny, but still has a smooth feel. Brushed and Suede are textured finishes. Applying a different finish besides polished can make the stone more porous. We can hone a slab that is already polished, but we cannot add texture.  You would need to select slabs with the finish already applied. Please contact us for information on other stone suppliers that carry slabs with these finishes.

Yes!  Standard splash is 4” high, however everything we do is custom, so you can order whatever you need.  If you have existing tile, wallpaper, window sill, upper cabinets, or other part of your kitchen you are trying to meet up with, we can measure the perfect height of splash to fit.  In these cases, we will install the countertops first, and then measure for the splash to ensure the best fit possible.

If you are replacing your laminate countertop with stone, there can be a gap between the existing tile and your new stone countertop. The thickness of a laminate countertop is 1-1/2”. Quartz and granite thickness is between 1-1/8” to 1-1/4”. In a situation like this we will shim the tops to the existing tile and will caulk the tile to the countertop. The gap between the top and the cabinets can be covered by a piece of trim supplied by the homeowner.

If you have a 4” laminate backsplash and plan to keep your existing tile, we will install the new stone countertops, then measure for stone backsplash to ensure a tight fit to the tile. We will return a few days later to install the backsplash.
